Course Modules

analyticSQL@home

Whether you store data in relational tables, JSON or some other format the power of SQL enables you analyze the data. From analytic functions to row pattern matching, you can answer complex business questions with a few lines of SQL. This session discusses SQL techniques and their use-cases. It includes practical examples showing you how to gain insights from your data.

json@home

JSON has gained a lot of popularity: initially just a data interchange format for web applications, now it’s a common data model used by many applications – including databases. Learn what the JSON buzz is all about, when it makes sense to use JSON (and when better not) and how to unleash the power of JSON with Oracle database.

ml@home

Ever seeking to use Oracle Converged Database technology with embedded machine learning algorithms to solve important problems of the day, our speakers will demonstrate how to use Oracle Machine Learning, Oracle Data Miner, a SQL Developer extension, APEX and ORDS REST Services to analyze wine data from Kaggle and pick a wine that is likely to be good (greater than 90 points) yet inexpensive (< $20). We will start with SQL Developer to import our data, explore it and build and apply machine learning models using Oracle Machine Learning, and then deploy the machine learning model in production applications using ORDS/REST services. Come see how much you can do today using Oracle’s Converged “AI” Database.

spatial@home

Location is ubiquitous in modern applications. With spatial features - now included for free with all editions of Oracle Database – you can manage and analyze any data with a location element, and create maps to visualize and interact with your data. Learn about capabilities such as native spatial data types and APIs, support for JSON, Oracle REST Data Services, Spatial Studio for self service spatial analysis and mapping, developer toolkits to build mapping applications, and more.

graph@home

Graphs have become a hot topic in the data analytics area, but what can they do for organizations? Graphs excel at analyzing latent relationships in large networks of data – so they’re great for fraud analytics, manufacturing dependency analysis, customer 360 analysis – use cases that relational models struggle with. We’ll introduce you to what graphs are all about, what problems they solve, and how you can get started using them right in Oracle Database.

microservices@home

Many of you have wondered how to get started with Microservices, what are they good for, and when they are an overkill? If you want some answers join this session for the good and the bad of building microservices based applications with the simplicity of the Oracle Converged Database. We’ll address: 1. Are you struggling to modernize event-driven apps? 2. What are the popular paradigms for Microservices? Are these really Micro, or better to call them Macro services, or just modular monoliths? 3. How can you simplify Microservices with an Oracle Cloud stack? 4. Is hybrid - On-premise and Cloud - architectures especially challenging for Microservices?

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to take a class on the Dev Gym?

Nothing. Nada. Nil. Zilch. That's right, it's 100% FREE! As is everything else at the Dev Gym.

Do I need access to an Oracle Database?

No! This is a fully online course; we use LiveSQL.oracle.com to provide you with access to an Oracle Database. The materials are designed so you can complete the course without installing your own database. If, however, you want to be able to "play around" with your own database, we suggest you sign up for a Database Cloud Service trial. Visit https://cloud.oracle.com/tryit for more information.

What do I get for completing the class?

Once you complete all modules of a class, you can print your class certificate. If your average grade in the class is 90% or higher, you receive a Certificate of Excellence. Otherwise you will get a Certificate of Completion. Either way, congratulations on a job well done!

Can I restart the class?

If you want to do a complete restart, simply drop the class and re-register. You can do this by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking on the link provided. If you simply want to retake the quizzes in an individual module or entire class, again, go to the bottom of the page and click on that link.
